Saved on my Avanti trip

I was looking to save some money on my Avanti West Coast journey, and Seatfrog came up. I tried the auction for a First Class upgrade and managed to win it for a price that felt like a real bargain compared to what I would've paid upfront. It was a good deal, and the digital ticket popped right up in the app. I was happy with the overall value I got.

Good for upgrades, delivery okay

I used Seatfrog for an LNER upgrade last month, trying to get First Class from London to Edinburgh. The bidding process was straightforward enough in the app, and I ended up winning the upgrade for a decent price. It definitely beat buying a full First Class ticket directly. My only minor gripe was that the digital ticket for the upgrade took a bit longer to show up in my app than I expected after the auction closed, maybe about 15 minutes. Customer service was responsive when I messaged them about it though, which was good. Overall, a solid service if you're looking to save on those First Class journeys.

Does anyone know if they do any student discounts or codes? Wanna upgrade my trip home for uni but money's tight.

C Colin 1 month ago
I think they do! Check their app or website, I saw something about it recently. Worth a look.

Yeah, I used one last year. It wasn't huge but every little bit helps. You usually input it in the app during checkout.

My train got cancelled after I won an upgrade, what happens then? Do I lose my money for the upgrade?

R Rosa S. 1 month ago
Nah, you usually get your money back for the upgrade if the train's cancelled. They're pretty good about that.

I had that happen once, they refunded the upgrade cost. The original ticket policy would apply for that part. Don't stress it.

Can I use my railcard when upgrading with Seatfrog? Or does that only apply to the original standard ticket?

C Cody 1 month ago
Nah, the railcard only applies to your original ticket. The upgrade is a separate thing, a bid really, so no railcard on that part.

C Chris V. 1 month ago
Correct, your railcard only affects the base fare. The upgrade price is set by Seatfrog's auction, so it doesn't apply there.

Are Seatfrog upgrades legit? Like, will I actually get into First Class or is it some kind of scam?

N Neil 1 month ago
Totally legit, used them loads of times. You get a new barcode or something on your phone that the conductor scans.

Yeah, it's real. They work with the train companies directly. No issues for me ever.

Hey, thinking of trying Seatfrog for a trip from London to Manchester. How long does it usually take for upgrades to pop up before the train leaves?

K Kevin J. 1 month ago
From my experience, they usually start showing up a few hours before, sometimes even on the day itself. It's really last minute.

C Chris 1 month ago
yeah it's always super close to departure. like 24-48 hours usually for the auction to even start.
